Shirley Bouwman

Shirley Ann Bouwman,64, of Baxter passed away at her home on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 surrounded by her family after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Private family services with burial at Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston, MN.

Shirley was born on October 13, 1949 to Ann (Page) Evans and Wallace Harding Evans in Crookston, Minnesota. She grew up in Crookston, Minnesota graduating from Crookston Central High School in 1967. Shirley's most cherished memories were with Family and Holiday gatherings. Other Hobbies included Vacations / traveling, Reading, Embroidery work and Playing Pogo on her computer.

Her favorite vacations included her trips to Branson, Missouri and her trips to South Dakota. Highlights of her Branson trip included the iconic Wax museum and Winery with her daughters. Her fond memory of South Dakota was her walk up Crazy Horse Mountain (Volksmarch). She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren whether it be baking, camping and her love of fishing. Shirley had an amazing work ethic regardless of what task was in front of her. She took great pride in working for everything she had.

Shirley spent 23 years working at the University of Minnesota - Crookston after she moved back to Crookston in 1973. She also worked for 10 years at Mt. Saint Benedict as a nurse's aide. Most recently she worked at the Manor Nursing Home and Hospital beginning in 1997 until she became ill.

Shirley is survived by her mother, Ann Evans of Crookston, MN; daughters, Lisa (Brian) Schumacher of Crookston, MN, Sherry Senske (Steele) of Glyndon, MN, Michelle (Kevin) Johnson of Baxter, MN; seven grandchildren, Allison, Heather, Sierra, Steele, Samuel, Kyle, and Katy; sister, Marlys (Kerry) McFarlin of Crookston, MN. She was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Evans; sister, Jean Hasty, and grandchild, Brittny Schumacher. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
