Shirley M. Bentfield, age 87, passed away late Thursday evening at her home in Baxter. Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Baxter City Cemetery.
Shirley Muriel Bentfield was born August 4, 1921, in Duluth, MN, the daughter of George and Margaret Berg. On July 27, 1956, she was united in marriage to Elmer Bentfield in Webster, SD. To this union a daughter, Denise, was born. Shirley and Elmer were able to share 45 years of marriage together before he died in 2001. Following their marriage the couple owned and operated Fields Rest Home in Fargo, ND for several years. In 1960 they moved to Minnesota living in Sauk Rapids, then Lake Alexander, Pillager, and finally Baxter. She was a very social person, an expert seamstress sewing clothes and doing mending for not only her family, but also, friends and neighbors. Wheel of Fortune was her favorite TV show and she enjoyed watching it with her sister, June. She also loved to watch the wildlife in her backyard, including deer, geese, and other animals, but the most important thing in her life was her family. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret; and her husband, Elmer. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Denise (Roy) Rauen of Baxter; grandchildren, Krista, Alicia, and Shane; great grandchild, Camden; and sister, June Yoachum.
