Setsuko Cadwell, age 81, formerly of Pine River, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014, at her daughter's home in Elk River. She was born to Jujiro and Ko Kojima on May 12, 1932, in Nara, Japan.
She met her husband, Bruce, at the police station in Nara, Japan, where he was stationed as an MP for the Army and she was preparing to continue her schooling in Law Enforcement. They were married in Kobe, Japan, on December 19, 1952. She became a citizen of the United States in 1958. Setsuko was busy throughout the years as a military wife with kids, having to travel frequently. They settled in Pine River when Bruce retired from the Army. She worked at the Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center for 23 years and was a member of the Pine River Legion Auxiliary.
Setsuko is survived by her children: Wanda Halvorson (Larry) of Otsego, John Cadwell of Brainerd, Linda Cadwell of Elk River; grandchildren: Christopher Otto of New Orleans, LA, Zachary Cadwell of Brainerd, Taylor Cadwell of Nisswa, Kelly Lee of St. Cloud; and several family members in Japan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce; daughter, Susan; and son, Robert.
Services will be 1 PM on Saturday, February 22, at First Lutheran Church, Pine River. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
