Scott Jay Gardner was born on June 19, 1967, the son of Frank and Loretta (Kline) Gardner. He attended school in Staples graduating in 1985. As a teenager he suffered an aneurism leaving him disabled. After going through rehab in 1980, he worked his way from a wheelchair to a walker to crutches to a cane and finally able to walk without assistance. The strength of his character and determination was evident to everyone who knew him. In 1985 he was the recipient of the True Grit Award. He loved people and had a sharp sense of humor. Among the things he enjoyed were fishing, deer hunting, and sports, especially the Vikings. He was, indeed, a true inspiration to others. He will be lovingly missed by his parents, Frank and Loretta of Staples; brother, Steve (Kelly) Gardner of Willmar; sister, Sharon (Rodney) Haug of Hawley, MN; a niece; 3 nephews; and a great nephew.
