Scott Nelson Beck passed away at the J. A. Wedum Residential Hospice on July 3, 2017. Scott was diagnosed with leukemia on March 3, 2017. Scott fought his disease with grumbling courage. When the leukemia returned and it became apparent he would not survive, he spent his last days making sure his family knew that they were loved. A visitation for Scott will be held on Monday, July 10 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
Scott was born was born on November 11, 1951, in Little Falls, MN to Harvey and Jean (Nelson) Beck. He spent his childhood in the Nisswa area, fishing and boating. Scott attended Wadena Area Technical Institute and became a lineman for Crow Wing Power in 1973. He spent the next 44 years climbing poles, digging trenches, going on power outages, mapping future power lines, and being eaten by mosquitos. He loved every minute of it.
On September 1, 1973, he married an Emily, MN girl, Susan Marie Anderson at the Nisswa Community Church. Scott built their first home in Emily and later a home in Baxter on Whipple Lake. Scott was a hardworking man who could build or fix anything. He was devoted to his wife and lovingly cared for her until her passing three years ago.
Scott was proud to be an American and flew a flag at his home; of course, it was properly illuminated for night time viewing. He was famous for his mashed potatoes that were served at every holiday dinner. He spent his last few years working at the job he loved, riding his RZR and enjoying his two grandchildren.
Scott is survived by his two daughters, September (Gabe) Leon of Emily, MN and Briana (Matt) Scalo of Maple Grove, MN; grandson Sam Scalo; granddaughter Anabelle Scalo; brother Bill (Laura) Beck of Waukee, IA and sister Julie (Bob) Coffey of Rockford, IL and several nieces, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Susan and his parents, Harvey and Jean Beck. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
