Sarah Linda Tabaka, age 67, of Longville, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on August 1, 2020 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Sarah was born the fourth of five children to Richard and Esther Thomas on August 20, 1952 in St. Cloud, MN where she spent her entire childhood. She was a 1970 graduate of St. Francis High School in Little Falls, MN. She always spoke fondly of her time at St. Francis where she was active in athletics and choir. Sarah married Dick Tabaka on September 20, 1975 in St. Cloud, MN. Early in their marriage Dick and Sarah lived in Perham, MN, where they owned a hardware store but eventually settled in Pine River, MN where they lived until 2003. Sarah earned her BA in Social Work from Bemidji State University in 1997 and subsequently worked at Pequot Lakes ECFE as a parent educator and program director for 19 years. She truly loved her work with ECFE and enjoying continually learning about child development. Sarah was active in church and various book clubs. She loved history, her pets, travel, and spending time with family and friends at the lake. She was a loving wife, incomparable mother, and dedicated friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Sarah is survived by her husband, Dick Tabaka of Longville, MN; her children, Sam Tabaka of Rogers, MN and Meg Tabaka of Half Moon Bay, CA and their spouses; her grandchildren, Taylor, Alex, and Eleanor; her brothers, Phillip Thomas of St. Cloud, MN, and Fred Thomas of Crosslake, MN; her sister, Kristine Cantlin of Ashburn, VA; as well as numerous special cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and beloved sister, Shelia.
A private graveside service will be held.
