Samuel Moss, 82, of Crosslake, died Monday, December 15, at St. Joseph?s Medical Center in Brainerd. Samuel Clayburn Moss was born September 7, 1921, in Lancaster, Tennessee, to Robert and Sarah(Smith) Moss. He grew up and attended school in Tennessee. He moved to Indiana, where he began work for the Union Pacific Railroad. He served in the Marines during WW2, earning a Purple Heart after being wounded at Iwo Jima. Following his military discharge he returned to Indiana and his job at the railroad. He later moved to California, where he continued to work for the railroad until his retirement as a Grandmaster. He and Pauline moved to Crosslake 15 years ago. Sam was active in the VFW and American Legion, and served in the local Elks and Lions clubs. He enjoyed dancing and gardening.
Sam is survived by his wife Pauline; a daughter, Anna (Don)Anderson, of Monticello, IN; a stepdaughter, Deborah (Bill) Jackson, of Kailua, HI; a son, Robert (Niki) Moss, of Santa Clara, CA; a stepson, Samuel ?Joe? (Mary) Zook, of Crosslake; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Ferguson; and his brothers, Dallas and Walter Moss.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 19, 1 PM, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, with Reverend Bob Twiton officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
