Esther "Sally" Mason, age 96, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010, at the Friendship Village in Bloomington, MN. She was born September 3, 1913, in Mississippi, to Andrew and Margaret Brandt (Flategraff). Sally grew up in Pequot Lakes, then moved to Minneapolis at the age of 16, where she worked and went to school. She graduated from West High School in Minneapolis. Sally married Harry Melberg in 1938. In 1957, she moved to New York City, where she managed the Peck and Peck Women's Clothing Store on Madison Avenue until her retirement. Sally married Edgar Mason in 1975. Edgar passed away in 1987. Sally loved living on Central Park South in New York, where she resided from 1957 until 2001, when she returned to Minneapolis. She was a very giving person, therefore the family requests memorials to the donor's choice in lieu of flowers.
Sally is survived by her brother, Murriel Flategraff of San Diego, CA; sister, Mardell Nelson (Eldon) of Lakeville; and scores of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Charlie Brandt, Francis Brandt, Lewis Brandt, Andrew Brandt, Oscar Flategraff, Elmer Flategraff, Alfred Flategraff; sisters: Marie Johnson, Rose Gahnstrom, Josie Curran-Moe, and Henrietta Nelson.
Services will be 11 AM on Friday, May 21, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes, with Pastor Donna Olson officiating. Burial will be in Our Savior's Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
