Ryan "Bub" William Johnson, age 41, of Pine River, passed away Thursday, May 28, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Bub was born March 16, 1974, in Fridley to Diane Johnson/Perry and Ty Johnson. He grew up in the Pine River-Backus area and graduated from Pine River-Backus High School in 1992. Bub was united in marriage to Kimberly Rubitschung on August 22, 2009, in Pine River. He was employed by Trussworthy in Pine River and was a paintball enthusiast, army fanatic, World War II history buff and enjoyed gun collecting. He loved his wife and daughters very much and was a very generous man.
Bub is survived by his wife, Kimberly; children, Addeline Mitchell and Mackenzie Rubitschung both of Pine River; mother, Diane Perry (Ralph) of Pine River; father, John Holmgren of Backus; brother, Travis Johnson (Wanita), nephew, Jacob Johnson and niece, Jessica Johnson, all of Backus; grandparents, David and Judy Anderson; grandmother, Lura Leibel; uncles, David Anderson (Jody), Michael Anderson (Arilla), Randy Anderson (Diana); mother-in-law, Jacqueline Ide; sister-in-law, Kelly Shay; niece, Lilly Shay-Duran and nephew, Jack Shay-Duran; numerous cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jessica Holmgren.
A celebration of his life will be 5 PM on Monday, June 1, at First Lutheran Church in Pine River with Pastor Tim Walker officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River and one hour prior to services at the church.
