Ruth C. Lyman, age 83, formerly of Aitkin, passed away Tuesday, September 09, 2008, at her daughters home in Isanti, MN. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Sunday, Sept. 14 at the Strike Funeral Home Cambridge Chapel in Cambridge, MN (763-698.2070). Interment will be on Mon. Sept. 15 at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley, MN.
Ruth Caroline Lyman was born on Feb. 1, 1925, in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of William and Nora (Sabie) Osbloom. She graduated from South St. Paul High School and went on to receive her Registered Nurse Degree from Fairview School of Nursing. On October 2, 1948, she was united in marriage to James Lyman in the Little Brown Church in the Vale. To this union, 5 children were born. Ruth and James were able to celebrate almost 60 years of marriage together. After their marriage she worked as a Registered Nurse in St. Paul. In 1966 the family moved to Aitkin operating the Lymans Resort, and also working as a nurse. After selling the Resort they moved into the city of Aitkin for a few years. About a year ago they moved to Cambridge to be near their children and grandchildren. Ruth enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, birdwatching, reading, painting and rosemalling, but most of all being with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nora; brother, Dean Osbloom; and 2 great granddaughters, Candyce Nelson and Victoria Weber. Ruth will be lovingly missed by her husband, James of Cambridge; children, Sharon Atchley of Cambridge, James Jr (Vicki) Lyman of Maplewood, MN, Robert (Patty) Lyman of Twin Falls, ID, Pamela (Larry) Hylton of Isanti, MN, and Shirley (Bob) Franz of Earlville, IL; 19 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; siblings, Ronald (Arlene) Osbloom of West St. Paul, MN, Joan Williams of West St. Paul, MN, Gloria (Glen) Dodd of San Diego, CA; sister-in-law, Betty Osbloom of Lonsdale, MN; and many other family and friends.
