Ruth Carlson, age 94, of Pillager, passed away peacefully October 17th at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd and went home to be with Jesus. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 23, at 1:00PM, at Casino Assembly of God Church in Pillager. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-7 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager.
Miss Ruth A. Carlson was born at the family home in May Township, Cass County, Minnesota, to John A. and Amanda (Johanesson) Carlson on February 23, 1916.
When Ruth was 12, the family moved to Arcadia, CA, for John's health. While in California, she attended evangelistic meetings held by child evangelist Little Richard. Eventually Ruth's brothers, Les and Wes, and Ruth's mother and father came to know the Lord.
The family returned to Minnesota and resided at the family farm.
Ruth attended Birch Hill School and graduated from Pillager High School as valedictorian.
Ruth attended teacher's training and taught school beginning at Birch Hill and retired from Staples Elementary School. She enjoyed her students and colleagues, many of whose names she still remembered, in her over 40 years of teaching.
Casino was a large part of Ruth's life. She faithfully attended and supported Casino Assembly of God Church. Ruth often brought neighborhood children to church with her, as well as played the piano and helped in any way she could.
In her retirement years Ruth also played piano at the nursing home, went blueberry picking with Effie, and helped her brothers Les and Wes on their farms.
Ruth was a tremendous blessing to all she met. She remembered nieces and nephews on their birthdays, as well as Christmas and Easter.
Ruth is survived by sister-in-law, Joyce Carlson; nieces, Angeline, Shirley, Marian, LaVonne; nephews, Leon, Dan, Tom, John, Steve, and extended church family.
Memorials may be given to the Ruth Carlson Scholarship Fund.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples.
