Ruth Babcock, age 96, passed away Friday evening at the Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Friends may call for one hour prior to Services at the Church on Tuesday.
Ruth Irene Babcock was born on February 26, 1911, in St. James, MN, the daughter of Wallace and Anna (Rieve) Ward. She grew up and attended school in St. James. On May 28, 1927, she was united in marriage to William Violett in Aitkin, MN. To this union 7 children were born. They first lived in the Aitkin area and then moved to Brainerd in 1944. Besides raising her family she found time to waitress in several different restaurants. On June 16, 1961, she was united in marriage to Charles Babcock in Sisseton, SD. Ruth and Charles owned and operated a motel in Podre Islands, TX, for a while after their marriage and then moved back to Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Anna; her first husband, William; son, Marvin Violett; 2nd husband, Charles; brothers, Gerald, Harold, and Arthur Ward; and sisters, Esther Violett, Edna Ward and Virginia Sullivan. Ruth is mourned in passing by her children, Milton Violett of Wichita, KS, Louis (LaVonne) Violett of Milford, OH, Victor (Karen) Violett of New Hope, MN, Delores Driver of Brainerd, Bonnie (Hilary) Berczyk of Burnsville, MN, and Ruth Ann (Gene) Clabo of Brainerd; 24 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 7 great, great grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Siebert of St. Cloud, MN, and Patsy Ward of Brainerd.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
