Russell Wetherell

Russell Wetherell age 94 of Staples passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Lakewood Care Center. Services for Russell will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 2:00PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples with one hour prior to services at the chapel with Pastor Neal Malcore officiating. Interment was at Poplar Cemetery followed by lunch at the Oylen Christian and Missionary Alliance Camp dining hall.

Russell was born on September 10, 1917 in Poplar, Minnesota. He graduated from Staples High School in 1936 and married Mabel Dahlvang on September 21, 1941. They farmed in Poplar Township on what was to become a Century Farm. After they retired from dairy farming, they enjoyed traveling each fall and visited most of the lower 48 states. Russell was an avid reader, stamp collector and enjoyed playing games with family and friends. He also served on the local school and creamery boards.

Russell will be missed by his wife, Mabel and daughters Jeanne (Gorden) Hardy of Merrifield and Barbara Wetherell of Annville, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brett (Elaine) Hardy, Beth (Joe) McGuire, Brian (Stacy) Hardy, Julie (Andrew) Bernstrom and Michael Hardy all of Merrifield and 10 great grandchildren.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents Calvin and Mame (Wheeler) Wetherell, sisters Bonne Matthews and Marian DeWald, brothers-in-law Chester Matthews and Floyd DeWald and nephew Michael Matthews

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples.
