Roy Swift, age 88, of Pine River, passed away Friday, November 14, 2008. He was born January 8, 1920 in Ravanna, Missouri, to Frank and Cora Swift. He married Marjorie Rodrian on June 11, 1945 in Minneapolis.
Roy worked in the CCC Camps near Park Rapids. He served as a medic in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II in North Africa, Italy and England. He was employed by the Minnesota Highway Department for 36 years. After retiring in 1982, Roy and Marjorie spent 26 winters in Arizona. Roy was a member of the Pine River Legion, First Lutheran Church in Pine River, and Epiphany Lutheran Church in Apache Junction, Arizona.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie; children, Pat Buttweiler (Tom) of St. Cloud, Cathy Stinson (Chuck) of Lake City; grandchildren, Adam Molitor (Michelle), Karli Molitor, Laurel Stinson, Dena Stinson, and Matt Stinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Wayne, Earl and Eldon.
Services will be 2 PM on Tuesday, November 18 at First Lutheran Church, Pine River, with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery, Camp Ripley. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
