Roy Stelzig, 91 of Crosslake, MN died Thursday, February 20, 2003 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Roy Floyd Stelzig was born January 28, 1912 in Waite Park, to Floyd and Oada Stelzig. He graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School and St. Cloud State University, and did graduate work at Iowa State University at Ames. He was married to Marguerite ?Peg? Phillips in St. Cloud on July 13, 1935. He was principal and basketball coach at Bellingham for two years, and then taught and served as assistant basketball coach at Washington High School in Brainerd until 1942. He moved to St. Paul, where he taught at Cleveland Jr. High School until his retirement in 1974. Following his retirement, he and Peg moved to their cabin on Whitefish Lake in Crosslake. He was a member of Crosslake Lutheran Church, St. Paul Retired Teacher?s Association, Osman Shrine, Scottish Rite, Como Park Masonic Lodge, and Al Sirat Fraternity. He had served as President of the Photography Club, the Whitefish Men?s Club, and the Twin Cities Town-ratters Dance Club.
Roy Stelzig is survived by his wife; a son Sam (Joyce) Stelzig of St. Paul; 2 grandchildren; and a special friend Turila Danzig of Los Angeles.
Memorial services will be Friday, February 28, 2:00 PM, at Crosslake Lutheran Church, with Reverend Mark Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Rose Lawn Cemetery in St. Paul.
