Roy E. Eblen, age 75, of Staples, passed away at the Fair Oaks Lodge, on July 27, 2013. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 1, at 11:00 AM, at St. Michael Catholic Church, in Motley. The Wake will be Wednesday evening from 5-7 at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, with Parish Prayers at 6:30, as well as one hour prior to the service, at the church.
Roy was born on March 4, 1938, in Hancock, MN, to Clarence and Gladys (Mills) Eblen. He grew up near Alexandria, and attended school there. In 1958 he entered the US Army and served in Germany for two years. He returned home in 1960. In 1961, he married Joyce Albee in Alexandria. Roy worked as a farmer most of his life, until he retired in 2006. Roy liked hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and horses. He enjoyed watching bull riding and John Wayne movies.
Roy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce; 5 daughters, Linda Trousil, Nancy Eblen, Wendy (Denny) Holub, Kathy (Todd) Corner, and Carol (Russell Sather) Eblen; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson, sisters, Shirley (Dwight) Parker and Frances Mead; step siblings, Calvin (Arlis) Thompson and Sharon Vogel; and his best friend, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gladys; stepmother, Clara; brother, Floyd Eblen; sister, Fern Reisner; and son-in-law, Bill Trousil.
