Roland Smith

Roland "Rollie" Smith, 67, of Baxter, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 18, 2010. Services for Rollie will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Kristen Oltmann officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 20, 2010 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter and one hour prior to services at the church. Internment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Rollie was born on August 20, 1942 to Albert and Jenne (Fougner) Smith in Lincoln, Minnesota. He was employed with the State of Minnesota for 37 years as a Team Leader in Social Work at the Brainerd State Hospital. He was also active in youth baseball for 14 years. He enjoyed reading about the Civil War and WWII. Rollie also liked to travel and took great pride in his yard. Rollie was a member of the Moose and Eagles Clubs in Brainerd for many years. He married Sharon on August 7, 2001 and he was a loving caregiver to her during her health issues early in their marriage. His family will always remember Rollie as a very devoted man to his family and for his honesty in all aspects of his life.

Rollie will be sadly missed by his wife of nine years, Sharon; his children; Craig (Dawn) Smith, Brett (Joy) Smith, and Shawn (Melanie) Smith; stepchildren; Missy (Jon) Azure and Kelly Anttila; sisters; Amy (Art), Leona, and brother; Allen(Carol); sister-in-law; Carole Smith; grandchildren; Jacki, Morgan, Michael, Avery, Anna, Evan, Hannah, Baylor, and Brooks. He was preceded in death by his parents; Albert and Jenne, his brothers; Keith "Bud" and Rodney, and his first wife Karen. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
