Roland Brotherton

Roland BillBrotherton, age 88, of Motley/ Leader, passed away at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud on Tuesday morning. The funeral mass will be on Monday May 8, at 11:00AM at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Motley with Fr. Peter Kirchner officiating. The Wake will be Sunday night from 5-7 with Parish Prayers at 6:00PM at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. Burial will be at the MN Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley. Bill was born on June 25, 1917 in Remsen, Iowa, To Clarence and Josephine (Kieffer) Brotherton. After finishing high school Bill joined the Coast Guard where he served in Oregon. Then in 1958 he and his family returned to Minnesota to farm. Bill was a great pool player, enjoyed bowling, and was a member of the American Legion. Bill is survived by his 4 children, Dean (Linda), Brian (Pam), Todd (Maggie), and Lori Cater; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Howard; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, and 1 brother.
