Age 82, died peacefully Thurs, Jan 27, at his Cross Lake home. Visitation 10:00AM and Memorial Service 11:00AM Sat., Feb 26, at Crosslake Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Luncheon and time of fellowship will follow. Inurnment is 1:30PM Mon., Feb 28 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Mpls at Assembly Area #5 with the Rev. Tim Coltvet officiating. Roger was born June 26, 1928 in Stockholm, Wisconsin, the son of Rueben and Anna (Thied) Hjerpe. He was confirmed at The Evangelical Covenant Church in Stockholm. He graduated from Mound Consolidated High School in 1946. He served in the US Army from 1950 to 1952. Roger worked for the City of St. Paul as a Land Surveyor from 1953 to 1985. He was united in marriage with Ardys Miller on September 10, 1955 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood, Minnesota. After spending many years visiting the Crosslake area, he and Ardys purchased a cabin that became their retirement home. He was past secretary of the Minnesota Land Surveyors Association, and a member of the American Legion Post #500 in Crosslake, the Brainerd Elks Lodge, and Crosslake Lutheran Church. Roger loved his family and friends, living at the lake, baseball, and escaping twenty-three Minnesota winters. He was preceded in death by parents Rueben and Anna Hjerpe; brothers Stanley & Ellsworth; sister and brother-in-law Aileen and Orrin Olson; sister Ruby Ashe; sister and brother-in-law Lynette and Robert Rossing; sister and brother-in-law Alice and Henry Longley; and niece Terri Otto. He is Survived by wife, Ardys; daughter, Cindy; son, Bruce (JulieAnne); grandchildren, Joe and Anna; brother-in-law Gene Ashe (Mary); sister-in-law Shirley Hjerpe; brother and sister-in-law Lew & Lilly Miller; nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Crosslake Lutheran Church, Crosslake Firefighters Relief Association or The American Cancer Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
