Roger Fancher

June 26, 1939 — March 29, 2008

Roger W. Fancher of Outing, MN, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 29. A gathering of family and friends will be 4:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, April 3, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake. There will also be visitation at the Sunset Funeral Chapel in Minneapolis from noon until 1:00 PM Friday with interment in Sunset Cemetery.
Roger William Fancher was born on June 26, 1939, in Minneapolis, the son of Edward and Velma (Newcomb) Fancher. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from South High School. After his schooling he earned his journeyman plumbing license and worked as a plumber for several years. On July 9, 1960, he was united in marriage to Diane Soderstrom at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. He joined the Minneapolis Police Force in 1962. Following 28 years of distinguished service including being a homicide detective, serving on the Gang Task Force, and working with the K-9 unit, he retired in 2000. While living in his lake home on Roosevelt Lake he did volunteer work with the Sheriff Department Water Patrol, the Lake Association, town board, and the local Lions Club. He enjoyed working in his garage and shop, camp fires, White Castles and popcorn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane, in 2004 and his father, Edward; Roger will be sadly missed by his mother, Velma of Minneapolis; son, Mark (Angel) of Anoka; daughter, Cindy (Jon) Reedy of Maple Grove; 6 grandchildren, Josh (Melissa), Kellie, Katie, Thomas, Jeannette, and Michelle; sister, Beverly; brother, Jim; and many other relatives and friends.
