Rodney “Rod” A. Hanson, 91, of Brainerd, passed away late Thursday, December 21, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. Rod’s funeral service will be Wednesday, December 27, at 11 AM, at Heritage Assembly of God Church in Baxter. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church during the hour before services.
Rodney August Hanson was born April 19, 1926 in Minneapolis, the son of Carl and Marie (Buchholz) Hanson. He graduated from South High School. He worked as a barber until his retirement, when he moved to the Brainerd Lakes Area. An active member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners, Rod volunteered his time driving children to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. He belonged to the Nisswa Lion’s Club, where he held several offices and served as governor; he recently received his 50-year membership pin. Rod also belonged to the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and bowling.
He will be missed by his wife, Rosella (Kinder); his daughter Dena Wiblishauser, of Maple Grove; his son, James (Betsy) Hanson, of Maple Grove; his stepchildren, DeAnna (John) Imgrund, of Brainerd, Terry Kinder, of Brainerd, Bonnie (Tom) Magnan, of Brainerd, and Kathleen (Tim) Goble, of Baxter; 13 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Deloris.
