Robert "Bob" R. Woodruff, 92, of Hackensack, passed away at the Golden Living Center, Walker, on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, with his best friend, John, by his side. Funeral services will be 11 AM on Monday, August 5, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, with interment in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Hackensack.
Bob was born in Birch Lake Township on April 28, 1921, to Lural and Rose (Mathies) Woodruff. Bob graduated from Hackensack Consolidated Schools in 1938. He went on to French's Business College in Bemidji. He joined the Navy in 1942 and was assigned to the USS Patapsco. He was honorably discharged in 1947. Bob was a fishing guide in the Crane Lake area out of Nelson's Resort for over fifty years. During the winter in his earlier years, he would work various jobs in the Twin Cities area. He enjoyed painting pictures for himself and others and was also quite the chef.
Bob was a current member of American Legion Post 202, Hackensack, past member of the VFW in Orr, and was involved in various community activities in Crane Lake and Hackensack.
Bob was a wonderful, caring, kind-hearted, intelligent person. He had a way of making anyone feel comfortable. He will be missed by many.
Bob is survived by his special family, John and Marilyn Fank of Akeley, their children and grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, one sister, and many other relatives and friends.
