Robert M. Roach, age 75, of Merrifield passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2006 following a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 18, at 11 am, at Crosslake Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Friday, November 17, from 4-7 pm at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, and at the church during the hour prior to services on Saturday.
Bob was born December 12, 1930 to Glen and Carmen (Marsh) Roach. He attended school in Crosby, graduating in 1948. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Wisconsin during the Korean Conflict. In 1952, during his tour of duty, Robert contracted tuberculosis, which resulted in his spending 16 months in VA hospitals in New York and Minneapolis. Bob attended Dunwoody Institute and worked for the US Post Office until 1960, when he joined the Minneapolis Police Department. He worked at the Third and Fourth Precincts, as well as Family Violence and Property Crimes, until his retirement in 1981. After retirement he worked as Chief of Police at the VA hospital in Minneapolis for two years.
Bob is survived by Darlene, his wife of twenty-eight years; eight children; nineteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers Richard, Gary, and Kenneth; and sisters Barbara Hilton, Nancy Maghan, and Julie Higgins; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim.
