Robert L. Rengel, age 61, of Staples, passed away on Sunday, October 28 at Lakewood Care Center after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. A service is planned for Saturday, November 10 at 2:00 PM, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. There will be a visitation time one hour prior to the service.
Robert was born on June 15, 1951 in Staples to John and Rose (Heier) Rengel. He graduated from Staples High School in 1969, where he was a wrestler and also played football and baseball. After high school he attended Moorhead State College where he received a bachelors degree in special education. He taught in Browerville before coming to Staples, where he taught until his retirement in 1994. While in college, Bob was tri-captain of the Moorhead State Dragons wrestling team and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Owls . In 1972, he married Karen Marden, and they had two children. He enjoyed working out, witty repartee, gardening, practical jokes, collecting exotic pets, and canoeing the river .
Robert is survived by his children, Alicia of Bemidji and Philip (Miranda) of Burnsville; grandchildren, Aiden, Alexis, Dylan, and Adrianna; brothers, Jack, Phil (Gail), Roger (Mary), David (Dinah), Jerry, and Joel (Pamela); the mother of his children, Karen Rengel; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by father, John; his mother, Rose; and a brother, Rick.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Home in Staples.
