Robert Matthews

Robert Duane Matthews, 68, of Brainerd passed away on Saturday, August 23rd at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, MN. Services for Robert will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 12:30PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 from 5:00-7:00PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN and one hour prior to services on Sunday.

Robert was born to Albert E Matthews and Vivian E (Grove) Matthews on June 5, 1946 in Staples, MN. He graduated from Staples High School in 1964 and attended Staples Vocational School where he earned a degree in drafting. He married Rita Louise Tholl on August 28, 1965. They lived in Mora, MN until 1977 when they built their home in Brainerd, MN. Bob worked for MnDoT for 37 years and retired in 2002. He enjoyed being with his family, spending winters in McAllen, TX and traveling the country in their RV. Bob enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling and being outdoors. Robert is survived by his wife, Rita of Brainerd, MN; his children, Melissa (Scott) Swisher of St. Louis Park, MN and Rebecca Matthews of Pillager, MN and grandson, Sam Swisher; sister Sandra Cory of Staples, MN and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia and brother, Bill. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
