Robert Marden

Robert M. Marden, age 81, of Staples, passed away Friday, November 26, 2010, at the Lakewood Heath System Hospital. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 29 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Fr. Ron Schmelzer officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery at Staples. Friends may call from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and for one hour prior to Services on Monday.

Robert Merle Marden was born on July 25, 1929, in Staples, MN, the son of Luke and Margaret (Cain) Marden. He grew up in Staples and graduated from high school there. Following his schooling he went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad as a fireman on a steam engine. His whole working career was with the Railroad eventually becoming and engineer for Burlington Northern. On October 6, 1951, he was united in marriage to Merle Selander. They were able to share over 58 years of marriage together before Merle passed away in August of 2009. Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Historical Society, and the MN Deer Hunters. Among the things he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, collecting Railroad memorabilia and other antiques, all kinds of sports especially watching the Vikings. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and loved St. Patrick's Day. Bob was also an original poet.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Merle, on August 9, 2009; his parents, Luke and Margaret; and siblings, Philip, George, Richard, James, Kenneth, and John Marden, Betty Ann Nelson, Maxine Doyle, Lorraine Shannon, and Joan Kern. Bob will sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Karen Rengel, Jeff (Lynn) Marden, Nancy (Jamie Listebarger) Marden, Peggy Stevens, Linda (Claude) Bertrand, and Patrick Marden; grandchildren, Alicia, Philip, Blair, Brooke, Traci, Travis, Taylor, Sarah, Rachel, Grant, Hannah, Joshua, Christina, and Aaron; great grandchildren, Alexis, Aiden, Rowan, Kaedynce, and Ainsley; and sisters, Dorothy Endres, MaryLou Sigfrid, and Jeanette Warner.
