Robert D. Freer, 84, of Fifty Lakes, died Monday, June 24, 2013 at Keller Oaks Nursing Home in North Richland Hills, TX. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Camp Ripley Chapel at the Camp Ripley Base in Little Falls, MN. Interment with military honors will take place at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
Robert was born February 25, 1929, in Wayzata, MN, the only child of Dale and Helen Freer. He attended Wayzata High School prior to serving in the US Navy. On August 13, 1949, he married Barbara Wilson. Bob and Barb moved to Cherokee, IA in 1950 where daughter Valerie (Swanson) was born. The Freer's moved back to Wayzata in 1954. Three years later son Neal was born and three years after that daughter Gleeann (Pendleton) was born and the family moved to Moorheard, MN in 1961. Bob retired in 1987 from Janesville Auto Transport out of Dilworth, MN and they moved to Fifty Lakes, MN. Bob and Barb wintered in Bonita Springs, FL for 15 years. Bob enjoyed living on the lake, fishing, and mowing on the lawn. He also wintered in Texas.
Bob died following complications from open-heart surgery in Plano, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Barbara. He will be missed by his daughters, Valerie (Lyle) Swanson and Gleeann (Randall) Pendleton; son, Neal (Paula); grandchildren, Kim (Rod), Anita (Jerry), Ricky, Brandon (Anetia), and Chelsey; and 17 great-grandchildren.
