Robert J. "Bumpy" Bruning, 85, passed away Friday, January 30, 2009 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 7, 2009 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Brainerd, MN. Friends are welcome to visit one hour prior to services. Interment at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls, MN.
Bob was born September 12, 1923 in St. Cloud, MN, the son of Raymond and Eva Bruning. He graduated from Cathedral High School in St. Cloud and St. John's University in Collegeville, MN. Bob was a B-24 pilot during WWII and a 37 year employee of International Milling (Multifoods) in Minneapolis. He was a long time resident of Excelsior until he retired in 1986 and built a home on Sylvan Lake where he and his wife resided for over 21 years. He loved to hunt, fish, play golf and spend time with his family and friends on the lake.

Bob will be missed by his wife, Betty Mae; daughters, Christie Lord and Leslie (Doug) Jandro; son, Robert (Marilyn) Bruning; step-children, Sandra (Phil) Johnson, Sharon (Mick) Saul, and Sheila Carlson; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, John (Pam) Bruning; sister, Harriet (Bob) Rieder; sister-in-law, Kathryn Lorens; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Patricia; daughter, Elizabeth; and sisters, Marie Murphy and Kathryn Hall.

The family would prefer memorials be sent to Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Research, American Diabetes Association or a charity of donor's choosing.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Excelsior, MN.
