Robert Gordon Bowman, age 88, of Pequot Lakes, died Monday, October 6, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society - Bethany in Brainerd.
He was born to Lawrence and Verna Bowman on May 13, 1926, in Hawthorne, WI. He grew up in Bennett, WI, and graduated from Superior High School. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Rockbridge APA-228. On June 21, 1953, he married Sylvia Neumann in Mankato, MN. He worked for Kilmer Electric Company in Osseo, then 28 years at the US Department of Agriculture in Minneapolis. He also ran a small business: Orbit Appliance Service.
His interests were family, helping others, making and repairing things, and tinkering in his shop. He was a Grub Club volunteer at the Uppgaard Wildlife Management Area, Camp Knutson in Crosslake, and helped the 'Clamshell Queen' guys bring firewood for campers to the big island on Whitefish.
We are already missing this truly humble man.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sylvia; his sons: Robert, Dean, Steve (Tracie); daughter, Susan.
Services will be at 10 AM on Thursday, October 9, at Crosslake Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a memorial at Camp Knutson in Crosslake, MN http://www.lssmn.org/home/. Arrangements with Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes.
