Robert “Bob” Arthur Slaybaugh, 57, born in Cedar Rapids, IA on January 18, 1967, at St. Luke’s Hospital to Robert and Geraldine “Bahls” Slaybaugh. Bob blessed us all with his presence until February 22nd, 2024. He was united in marriage to Sue Stagg on September 19th, 1992. Lovingly, they raised two beautiful children, Trevor and Ashley of Nisswa, MN.
Bob was hooked on his love for fishing and the outdoors from a very early age. Having been taught by his father and uncles and many fishing trips upon the Mississippi River, Bob also passionately shared his fishing skills with his two children, many nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins. He was a respected mentor by many. Bob enjoyed not only catching the fish and hunting the game, but also preparing the meal for everyone to enjoy. He was a master at barbequing and smoking meat.
Bob was a graduate of Washington High School in Cedar Rapids in 1985. He then earned his bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Education from Northland College in Ashland, WI.
As a dedicated Camp Director for Confidence Learning Center devoting 36 years, he provided outdoor recreational experiences helping people of all ages with cognitive and developmental disabilities. There wasn’t a camper that walked the grounds that didn’t love Bob. His love for them all was a genuine blessing to the community and beyond.
Bob had many meaningful accomplishments in his life. One, being an original founder of the Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza. He also served as a committee member for The Fishing Has No Boundaries and various charitable organizations. In 2016 he was recognized by the Jaycees by accepting the honorable International Junior Chamber Senate Award.
