Robert Michael Ayd, 76, of Breezy Point, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Cuyuna Regional Care Center surrounded by his family. He was born to Soloma and Leonard Ayd on August 3, 1940, in Shakopee, MN. Robert attended St. Cloud State University and graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in education. Robert started teaching a Pequot Lakes High School in 1973. He taught History, Social Studies and Driver's Education and he also coached basketball and was a referee for both football and basketball. He retired from Pequot Lakes High School in 2002 as Athletic Director. While teaching he also owned and operated Midy Tidy carpet cleaning business for over 30 years. Robert was also a member of the Crosslake Lions Club for 25 years.
Robert married his high school sweetheart, Diane Lynch, on October 21, 1961, and together they had three children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and watching sports. He also enjoyed spending his winters in Florida after his retirement. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Robert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane; children: Julie Kreitz (Jeff) of Breezy Point, David Ayd of Breezy Point, Ben Ayd (Angie) of Nisswa; grandchildren: Jessica Kreitz, Jack Kreitz, Ashley Hirt, Elizabeth Curb (Rylee); sisters: Carmen Dircks (Frank), Bev Anderson, Joan Ohnsorg; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Soloma and Leonard Ayd; brother, Donald Ayd; sisters: Marcy Wartz, Aileen Muer; nephews: Tom Muer and Benjamin Ayd.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM on Saturday, November 19, at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, Crosslake. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
