Richard Young

Richard "Dick" L. Young, 76, of Akeley, MN died on March 9, 2014 at St. Joseph Area Health Service in Park Rapids, MN. Services for Dick will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00AM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN with Pastor Darrell Morton officiating. A luncheon will follow services at the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.

Dick was born on August 24, 1937 in Sibley County to Roland and Ruth (Borchert) Young. He joined the US Army in 1956 and following his honorable discharge, he moved to Nisswa. Dick married Cheryl Johnson on April 23, 1979 in South Dakota. He worked at Potlatch until his retirement in 1993. Dick and Cheryl spent 15 years traveling south for the winters. He always enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was camping, fishing, hunting, or four wheeling. He also loved watching sports on TV. Dick was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Akeley, MN.

Dick is survived by his wife, Cheryl; sons, Joe (Vanessa) Young of Mesa, AZ, and Dustin (Amy) Wroolie of Akeley, MN; and a daughter, Dawn (Greg) Wyatt of Rosemount, MN; brother, Robert Young; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glenn; and granddaughter, Savanah.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
