Richard B. "Barry" Schmidt, age 80, of Crosslake, formerly of Brooklyn Center, MN, passed away peacefully at home February 23, 2013. He was born on April 25, 1932, in St. Cloud, MN, to Raymond and Myrtle Schmidt. He graduated from Patrick Henry High in 1950. He served in the Air Force and married Janet Waddick on July 31, 1954. He and his wife raised their 4 children in Brooklyn Center. He was an Engineer/Supervisor with Honeywell in the Defense System Division for over 40 years at several of their Twin Cities locations. He and his wife retired to Crosslake in 1990 where they were active members of their church and volunteered time at the Crosslake Visitor Center, Food Shelf, and Senior Dining. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family at Knife Lake and Crosslake. Barry also enjoyed playing cards at the American Legion in Crosslake and taking annual camping trips to the Black Hills and national parks out west.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years Janet; parents, Raymond and Myrtle; and sister Kathleen Schmidt. He is survived by his sons: Mark (Barbara) Schmidt of Chaska, Jim (Sara) Schmidt of Boise, ID; daughters: Patti (Steve) Hagen of Eden Prairie, Lynn (Steve) Britven of Fridley; grandchildren: Erik (Amie) Schmidt, Katelyn Schmidt, Doug and Angela Schmidt, Alec Hagen, Kristine and Joey Britven; sister-in-law, Lois (Mike) Lynch; nephews, Dan and Patrick Lynch; niece, Rita Moen; and many cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM on Monday, March 11, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Crosslake. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment Pinewood Cemetery, Crosslake. Memorials preferred to the Crosslake Food Shelf or Lewy Body Dementia Association @ www.lbda.org .
