Richard “Dick” Hartford LeMond, 81, of St. Cloud, formerly of Harding and Brainerd, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Cloud. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Nokay Lake Cemetery in Brainerd. Rev. Dr. Randy Taber will officiate.
Born in Milwaukee, WI on May 2, 1937, Richard was the son of Claude and Josephine (Roszek) LeMond. In 1952, the family moved to the Brainerd Lakes Area where they purchased Nokay Lake Resort. In July of 1955, Richard dedicated himself to serving his country as an electrician in the US Navy for over 20 years. Then in December of 1955, he was married to Shirley Anderson. During their life together, the couple had three children and Richard was proud to be able to bring his young family to Japan for three years while he was stationed there. After serving on the USS Midway, Dick was honorably discharged, as a Vietnam Veteran and began a career providing maintenance to various hospitals. After moving to Louisiana, Dick always enjoyed his visits home to the Brainerd Lakes Area at Nokay Lake Resort.
He was a social butterfly who found much joy in music, dancing, and playing the accordion. Although he liked fishing and bowling, they didn’t hold a candle to his grandkids and ice-cream. He would have loved the irony that he passed away on National Ice Cream Day. He will be missed for his sense of humor, integrity, and his shameless ability to flirt.
He is survived by his children, Mary Jo LeMond, of Apple Valley, Denis LeMond, of Eagan, and DeeDee (Perry) Paulson, of Brainerd; sister, Judy (Pat) LeMond, of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Jon (Keri), Joshua, Sara (Craig), George (Sarah), Jacob, Christina (Ryan), Derrick (Danielle), Alicia (Elijah), and Brock (Caitlyn); 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
