Richard J. Anderson, 80, of Hackensack, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011.
Richard was born November 22, 1930 in Minneapolis to Marguerite and Ludwig Anderson. He lived in North Minneapolis with two sisters and one brother and graduated from North High in 1948.
He received his Chief Engineer license at an early age and spent many years as a boiler room engineer.
In 1966, he moved from Minneapolis to the Denham/Arthyde area and took up farming. Richard was politically active, mainly concerning environmental issues, and chose to run for state legislature around 1980. He gave up farming and moved to Hackensack where he started a business of refurbishing old wooden boats. He was a steam power enthusiast who built and operated a large steam powered boat on Leech Lake.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Gloria, and wife Bev-Nii Anderson. Richard is survived by sons Randy (Evelyn) Anderson, Ted (Rita) Anderson and Carl (Molly) Anderson. He also had three step children; Lynn Charnley, Debbie Chapman, and Scott Charnley, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
Richard, often known as Dick by his friends and family, was sociable and enjoyed a wide variety of interests and friends. He liked his coffee and his scotch and a good conversation.
Services will be 2 PM on Saturday, November 12, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
