Richard Hofius

Richard Hofius passed away in his home west of Jenkins on September 12, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, October 1, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, from 2 to 4 pm.

Richard Leo Hofius was born October 16, 1934, to Irving “Doc” and Madolin (Schultze) Hofius in the Pine River Hospital, the 2nd of 10 children. Richard called his dad a nomad as growing up they lived in many places around Minnesota - Pine River, Jenkins, Northfield and Owatonna to name a few, but always coming back to the Pine River area.

Richard married Darlene Steinhauer on September 12, 1970. They made their home west of Jenkins for 53 years and had one daughter, Tracy. Richard also had a son, Michael, from a previous marriage. 
Richard had many jobs in his life - auto body work with his dad, bartender, truck driver - but the one he did the longest was carpentry, paint and tile work. He loved to hunt, fish, go camping, watch NASCAR and tell people stories of his life. 

Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of Jenkins, MN; son, Michael (Michelle) of Stillwater, MN; daughter, Tracy Kellen of Nevis, MN; brothers, Charlie (Irma) of Littlefork, MN, Larry (Laura) of Pequot Lakes, MN; sisters: Judy (Don) Seder of Pueblo, CO, Mary Cunningham (fiancé Richard Talbert) of Fallon, NV, Nancy Lakin of Orange City, FL; granddaughter, Stephanie Canton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Henry LaVere, Gordon, Ronnie; and sister, Pat Niskanen.
