Rev. Edward J. Koehler, age 77, of rural Pequot Lakes, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, on Thursday, July 12. Service of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 16, at 11:00 AM, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Motley. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, from 3-5 PM, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, and one hour prior to the service, at the church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens, in Brainerd.

Edward was born on January 23, 1935, in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, Canada. On February 17, 1935, he became a child of God in holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran, and was confirmed in the faith at Immanuel, Winnipeg, Manitoba, in1949. He attended Concordia College in St. Paul, MN, and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. He was ordained in 1960. Rev Koehler served parishes in Kirkland Lake and Hamilton, Ontario, and Marble, Crosslake, and Motley, MN, from 1960-2011. He served as an adjunct professor at Concordia Seminary, in St. Catharines, Ontario from 1976-1983.

On August 30, 1959, Edward married Patricia Weckop, of Pequot Lakes, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd, MN. Their marriage was blessed with four children.

Edward is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, John (TJ) of South Haven, MI, Paul (Lesa) of Baxter, MN, and Laura (Neal) Browender of Mankato, MN; 6 grandchildren; brothers, Wilbur (Marilyn) of Hamilton, Ontario, Fred (Gloria) of No. Ft Myers, FL, and Richard (Jane) of Edmonton, Alberta; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paula; and his parents, Leonard and Fannie Koehler.

Memorials are preferred to the St. John's Lutheran Church, Debt Reduction.
