Raymond Robben

June 19, 1940 — March 23, 2009

Raymond J. Robben, age 68, of Staples, passed away suddenly at his home Monday, March 23, 2009. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 27, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, interment will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery at a later date. Wake services will be Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples. Rosary will be at 6:30 and Parish Prayers at 6:45 PM.

Raymond Joseph Robben was born on June 19, 1940, in Bertha, MN, the son of Henry and Augusta (Griep) Robben. He graduated from Staples High School in 1958. Following his schooling he entered the United States Navy serving his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. On February 13, 1965, Ray was united in marriage to Gloria Martin in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. The couple farmed the home place in Staples Township. After he retired he became a handyman, doing remodeling and building cabinets for many customers. Ray enjoyed being in the outdoors, he loved to hunt and fish, metal detecting and panning for gold in South Dakota. He also enjoyed auction sales and garage sales and meeting his friends for coffee at The Spot café.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Augusta, and a nephew Jeff Fonteyn. Ray will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Gloria; children, Kevin (Sandi) Robben, Michael (Ruth) Robben, and Jason (Shelly) Robben all of Staples; grandchildren, Sheena, Andrew, Michael, Spencer, Josh, Jay, and Aaron; 2 great grandchildren, Eli and James; siblings, Richard (Stella) Robben, Rita (Gary) Stracek, and Stella (Dave) Fonteyn; brother-in-law, James (Phillys) Martin, and sisters-in-law, Sandy (Jerry) Vandermay, and Darlo (Wally) Harms.
