Raymond Eugene Flicek, 94, Baxter, MN died Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Brainerd, MN after a month long battle with sepsis. Funeral services will be held at 12:30PM on Monday, March 21, 2016 at St. Francis Catholic Church, 404 North 9th Street, Brainerd MN with Rev. Blake Rozier officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30AM at the church. A private interment will be held at Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery at a later date.
Raymond was born January 17, 1922 in Beaulieu, MN to Jeffrey and Rose (Trnka) Flicek. He married Etta Belle Galland on July 31,1943 in Killeen, Texas. Raymond enlisted in the US Army in 1942; landed on Normandy Beach two weeks after D-Day and conducted reconnaissance on a Harley Davidson motorcycle throughout Europe from 1943-1945. Ray was a 60 year member of Minneapolis Plumbers Local #15 and a lifetime member of VFW 1647. He was also a member of American Legion 255 and St. Francis Catholic Church, Brainerd MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Etta; granddaughter, Jennifer Krob; parents; sister, Phyllis Barron; and brother, Eugene.
Raymond is survived by daughter, Sandra (Leiner) Brakstad of St. Cloud, MN; sons, Jeffrey (Therese) Flicek of Erhard, MN and Mitchell (Mary) Flicek of Ogilvie, MN; grandchildren, Michael (Lisa) Leiner, Matthew Leiner, Marty (Candice) Flicek, and Emily Barthel;step grandchildren, Jessica Erickson, Aaron and Adam Fitzpatrick; and great grandchildren, Alexa Leiner, Iszic Flicek, Ethan and Erin Barthel, and Hunter and Grace Flicek. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to ALS Association Minnesota chapter. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
