Ray W. Hoover, age 89, formerly of Pine River, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2011, at Southdale Fairview Hospital following a short illness. Born December 26, 1921, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, his family moved to Mildred in the Pine River, MN, area when Ray was three years old. He served in Europe as a medic in the First Evacuation Hospital in the U.S. Army during the Second World War. Mr. Hoover raised his family in Richfield, MN, and worked for many years in retail sales at the Minneapolis Gas Company.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mrs. Amelia (Peterson) Hoover and Mr. Harvey Hoover and an older brother, Earl.
Ray is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ella (Hoover) Topp of Motley and Mrs. Eileen (Hoover) Carlson of Pine River, his loving wife, Mary Alice (Buettner) Hoover of Apple Valley, Minnesota and three sons, Edward, Donald, and John (Betsy). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, David Hoover, Jonathan Hoover, Danielle Garland, Andrea Garland, Amelia Hoover Green, Ray K. Hoover, and Donny Hoover, and Sheila Garland, the mother of two of his grandchildren.
Services will be 1PM on Tuesday, October 11 at Riverview Church, Pine River with lunch following. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial with military honors will be 4PM on Tuesday at Swanburg Cemetery rural Pine River.The family requests that no memorial gifts be sent.
