Randolph "Randy" Johnson

February 5, 1952 — January 29, 2025

Pequot Lakes, MN

Randolph “Randy” Belmont Johnson passed away on January 29, 2025, at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with cancer and COPD.

He was born on February 5, 1952, to Franklin Johnson and MaryJane Oddson. Throughout his life, he was known for his intelligence, hard work, and remarkable ability to fix just about anything. Whether on the road or at home, Randy’s hands were never idle—he was always ready to lend a hand and share his talents. Randy’s home and heart was always open to those who needed it.

A dedicated over-the-road trucker for much of his life, Randy later fulfilled his entrepreneurial spirit by founding Ideal Trucking, a business that became a reflection of his commitment and work ethic. He was a true “jack of all trades” who took pride in mastering many skills, whether they were mechanical, practical, or intellectual.

Randy is survived by his longtime partner of 27 years, Claudette Starr, his mother MaryJane Johnson-Oddson (Hap DeMesy), and his brothers Scott Johnson of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, and Eric Johnson of Hope, Alaska. He was a beloved uncle to two nieces: Dakotah Fujan of Anchorage, Alaska, and Shaya Cywinski of Chandler, Arizona. He was a beloved friend to his right-hand man and best friend Phil Pomeroy. He is also survived by many cousins, all of whom will cherish his memory.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Frank Johnson; his brother, Tim Johnson; his sister, Deborah Johnson; and three uncles, Bruce, Terry, and Jeff Oddson, and his aunt Sandra Jensen.

A Celebration of Life will be held to celebrate Randy’s life at a later date.
