Phyllis Matthews

Phyllis Matthews, age 86, of Brainerd, died Sunday, September 22, 2002 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village. Services will be on Wednesday at 11 AM at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with Reverend Rory Swenson officiating. Friends may call at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter from 5 ? 7 PM Tuesday, and at the church an hour before services on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Phyllis was born on December 5, 1915 in Beulah Township to Leslie and Ora (Brookbank) Jenkins. She attended school in Crosby. She married Neal Matthews in 1938 in Sisseton, SD. She worked at Land O' Lakes Café in the 1940?s and at Sears Roebuck for 13 years. She retired from the Brainerd State Hospital where she was a psych. tech for 10 years. She was a volunteer at the Brainerd State Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of Park United Methodist Church, the Brainerd American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the MRSEA (Minnesota Retired State Employee Association) and was the treasurer for 9 years.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Patricia Joseph of Baxter; granddaughter Shelley Jones of Brainerd; 2 brothers, Raleigh Jenkins of Isanti, MN and Harold Jenkins of Waite Park, MN. Her husband, 2 brothers Duane and Donald Jenkins and 2 sisters Lois Thomas and Berneice Wood died earlier.
