Philip Stone

April 7, 1928 — November 9, 2016

Philip Stone, 88, of Staples, MN passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. Services for Philip will be 11:00AM, Monday, November 14, 2016 at Staples First Congregational Church, UCC, with Pastor Tony Romaine officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8PM, Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment with Military Honors will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.

Philip was born April 7, 1928 in Staples, MN to Ernest and Josephine (Mayer) Stone. He graduated from Staples High School. Philip served his country in the US Army during WWII and Korea. He was a cook in the Army and loved it. Philip was united in marriage to Rita Nelson on May 31, 1949, and they were married for 67 years! He was employed as a Railroad Engineer by Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroads for 43 years. Philip was a member of the Staples Congregational Church, Elks, VFW, American Legion and was on the cemetery board at Evergreen Hill Cemetery. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, going to the lake, cooking for his family and traveling. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Philip is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Rayma (Dennis) Miller of Staples, MN, Melba (Bill) McGuire of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Marcia (Mark) Penfield of Fargo, ND, Joan Miller of Spring Lake Park, MN, Jerome (Peggy) Stone of Staples, MN; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, LaRita and Bernice; and grandson, Jason Miller. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
