Phil Klein

August 26, 1934 — July 30, 2005

Phil A. Klein, age 70, of Pequot Lakes, formerly of the Mound, died July 30, 2005, following a short, but brave, battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Friday in Immaculate Heart Catholic Church at Crosslake, MN. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Graveside services will be in Our Lady of the Lakes Cemetery at Mound on Saturday, Aug. 6th at 1:30 PM.
Phil was born August 26, 1934, in Chanhassen, to Henry and Elizabeth (Marschall) Klein. The third of four children, Phil attended high school in Mound, MN, graduating in 1952. He attended Mankato State University before joining the Army. While in the Army Phil served as secretary to General Melnick and was stationed in Germany. He returned from Germany in 1957.

Phil met and married the love of his life, Mary Ann Storck of Morris, MN, on September 19, 1959. From this union, three beautiful children, Linda, Patty, and Michael, were born. He worked for a brief time in the grocery business, before working 40 years as an insurance investigator for Retail Credit and Equifax. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake. He was an active member of the Mound Jaycee?s and also serviced as a director on the Jaycee?s state board. He was a long time member of the Mound American Legion and was a life member of the VFW in both Mound and Jenkins. Phil loved to travel and camping was a passion. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends. His greatest source of pride and joy in life was his family. He was a dutiful husband, parent, volunteer, church member and soldier throughout his active life.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elizabeth; a brother, Stephen Klein; and a grand daughter Elizabeth Ann Buell. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Ann; daughters, Linda (Steven) Enck of Edina, Patty (Dr. Ryan) Buell of Pequot Lakes; and son Michael (Sarah) Klein of Mound; 5 grandchildren, Emilee, Joshua, Sydney, Matthew, and Andrew; a sister Dorothy (Gil) Luers of Hot Springs, SD; and a brother Dave (Jan) Klein of Casa Grande, AZ, formerly of Mound; also many nephews and nieces.
