Peter Cartwright Houston age 89 of Merrifield passed away peacefully on May 8th, 2024, at his home in the woods. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean war who spent much of his life being an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Peter was a huge hockey fan, supporting his boys throughout their time playing the sport. His parenting style was stern, yet loving and always allowed you to make your own mistakes then would ask “What are you going to do about it?” Peter was known as a kind, wise and helpful person that was always there when someone called for assistance. Being a true patriot, he always wore his Marine veteran’s hat, not for recognition but to remind everyone of those who did not return from overseas protecting our rights and liberties. He supported many 2nd amendment causes, was a lifetime member of the NRA, and donated to many non-profit organizations. Peter was loved by many and will be incredibly missed.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ellen, brothers John and George, and grandson Chandler.
Peter is survived by his sons Ben (Jean), Doug, David, and Joe (Amber), his grandchildren, Jamie (Dan), Scott (Megan), Tanner, Mackenzie, Ace, Aaro, Milo, and great-grandson James.
There will be a memorial ceremony for Peter at the Fort Ripley Veteran’s Cemetery on May 24th at 9AM. A celebration of life will follow at Peter’s property.
