Pearl Skapyak

Pearl W. Skapyak, age 97, of Backus, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014, at Golden Living Center, Walker. She was born to Peter and Julia (Kinkead) Anderson on March 6, 1917, in St. Paul, MN. Pearl was employed as a Machine Operator for 35 years, with Brown and Bigelow Calendars in St. Paul, retiring in 1979. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Backus Senior Center, Relay for Life and doing birthday and anniversary cards for the church.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Dorothy Meissner and Darlene Jones. She is survived by her children: Katherine "Kay" Unertl (Sylvester "Ken") of St. Paul, John Miller (Arta) of St. Paul; stepdaughter, Marlene Olson (Bud) of Longville; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 13 great- great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 PM on Thursday, August 21, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Backus. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Backus. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
