While living in Pine River, Paul worked for the Chippewa National Forest for 9 years as a grounds keeper for Stony Point campground. He also drove many people to and from their appointments for the Faith In Action organization. He enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture, and gardening. He also enjoyed visiting with people in the craft and thrift shop that he and Bonnie owned near Pine River. He was an active member of the Pine River United Methodist Church.
