Paul F. Manke, 63, of Lake Shore died of cancer Monday, March 3, 2003 at his home. He was born in St. Paul on October 8, 1939 son of Frederick and Agnes (Blissenbach) Manke. Paul graduated from St. Thomas Academy and furthered his education at St. Thomas College, majoring in Engineering. On September 10, 1973 he was united in marriage to Sherry Pratt in Reno, Nevada. Paul worked at Paper, Calmenson Steel Company in St. Paul for 23 years, until retirement in 1989. He and his wife then moved from Falcon Heights to the Brainerd Lakes Area. Paul engineered and built drag racing cars for many years, and continued to follow the sport until his death. He belonged to the Nisswa Lions Club for many years, Gull Lake Drifters Snowmobile Club, and was an avid square dancer belonging to Heartland Squares and North Country Plus, as well as a square dance club in Florida. His other interests included cooking, volunteering with civic organizations, and working with many varieties of Hostas in his yard. His wife Sherry Manke of Lakeshore, MN, one aunt, Elsie Hochscheildt of St. Paul, cousins and many friends in the square dance community, survive Paul. His parents preceded him in death. Memorial services will be held May 17 at 3:30 PM in Fritz Loven Park in Lake Shore with Deacon Mike Knuth of St. Christophers Church of Nisswa.
