Patrick Edward Garry passed away December 17 th , 2019 at the age of 77. Pat was born on 2/19/1942 to Michael and Catherine Garry in the small farming community of Delavan, MN. As a youth he excelled at various sports, as well as raising the dickens with his friends and older brother. He met his future wife Catherine (Birong) Garry while they were both in college, and they married in 1964. They settled in Faribault, MN, where Pat taught elementary school and they raised two boys, Shawn and Tom.
Pat enlisted in the Army National Guard and served as a signals intelligence analyst during the Vietnam War, and he was proud to see both of his sons follow in his footsteps and join the Army as well, Shawn as a paratrooper and Tom as a fellow intelligence analyst. Pat taught for many years, while also helping to build an Allis Chalmers dealership. He was a hard-working man who was a jack-of-all trades and excelled at pretty much everything he attempted, and he held many jobs throughout his life, often working several jobs at a time to provide a good life for his family. In his retirement he moved “Up North” to Breezy Point, MN, and kept busy tinkering and creating crafts in his woodshop, and driving his convertible around the North Country when weather allowed. He was known to his neighbors as a friendly, generous man who was quick to laugh and loved to tell a joke or a story.
Pat adored his two young granddaughters, Emeline and Mae Garry, and they have many fond memories of “Grampa Pat” that they will cherish forever. Pat will be deeply missed by his two sons, his daughter-in-law Laurel, his granddaughters, his brother Mike, his numerous nephews and nieces, and his friends and neighbors in Faribault and Breezy Point. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Nan, sister-in-law Kitty, and wife Kate.
Services will be held on Saturday 12/21/19 at the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church at 35208 County Road 37, Crosslake, MN. Visitation will begin at 10 am, followed by a funeral mass at 11. After the mass we will be gathering for a lunch and remembrance.
