Orvis Twombly

Orvis A. Twombly, 96, of Brainerd died on Friday, October 21, 2011 at Good Samaritan Village-Bethany in Brainerd. Services for Orvis will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 11:00AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Dave Holte officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Church Scattering Gardens.

Orvis was born on July 21, 1915 to Frank and Minnie Twombly in LeClair, Iowa. They moved to Minnesota when Orvis was young. He graduated from high school in St. Paul, then married his wife Betty. They moved to Brainerd in 1953, where he owned the Red and White Grocery Store for over 20 years. Orvis also owned several rental properties in the Brainerd area. In his retirement years he enjoyed living on North Long Lake and later on Lake Edward. He spent 7 years at Good Samaritan Village-Woodland before his final months at Good Samaritan Village-Bethany. Orvis led a very active lifestyle well into his 90's. He enjoyed four wheeling, riding scooters, and tinkering with electronics and cars.

Orvis is survived by his sons, David (Char) Twombly of Crivitz, Wisconsin, Donald (Jolene) Twombly of Maplewood, Minnesota; daughter, Jane (Wayne) Trahms of Rochester, Minnesota; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and son, Roger. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society or Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
